I will be receiving the "2008 Metallurgist of the Year Award" from Ministry of Steel, Govt of India during National Metallurgists Day Celebrations in New Delhi on November 14, 2008. Few months back I had received "Tata Group Promising Innovation Award 2008" from Mr. Ratan Tata.

A really grt achievement buddy..u have really made us (inmates of room no 12 hostel no 10,BIT Sindri)feel proud for many more years to come..no words can express my deep appeciation for the commitment u have towards ur work.
(For those who are not from the manufacturing industry:
This award is given to only one person in india for excellence the field of manufacturing and is really a grt honour it is like the Oscar award...So satyam now u are a superstar!!!.
Satyam has also been awarded "The Young metallurgist of the year award in 2005"

Just to inform you all that after spending 12.5 fulfilling years at TRDDC-TCS, I have recently joined John Deere Technology Center in Pune. The primary reason for this move was a wider domain (large gamut of materials eng) and better role, which is well connected to the company's core business. It is a great pleasure to hear that 1986 batch was indeed a special batch during collage days and till date is rocking! The other day Hema was asking why we all are quiet so here comes a big knock!!
Great efforts SSS!!! Keep "entropy" of the group high and try to recall the answer to viva questions normally asked to Met guys - "If you come running for viva, what is the entropy change of your body system? and If you keep a refrigerator open inside a closed room what will be the temperature change eventually?" Can Amrit,Rajiv, Karam and other metal guys attempt these for revisiting old days? Dr. SSS is there to evaluate answers! BTW beside SSS and Aman did anyone else from '86 also got Dr. in front of his/her name? Probably time is nearing for us to get honorary ones :) Cheers, Sanjay

Hey RU Kumar,
Ain't you from Metal as well? Man, how can you forget Amrit Narayan? He was one who used to be first to the mess and then go to sleap early only to wake up around midnight and study, much to annoyance of Rajeev Kumar and Karamveer the second and third toppers, as when does Amrit study? And believe it or not they all are together now. The biggest surprise for me was that this time when I met Amrit and others in Jamshedpur, I found Amrit cracking jokes and laughing(surprised, yes, maine bhee socha ki bolu - "aap to aise na the!", but then I understood that "waqt ne kiya kya haseen seetam...")
And the last person in that pic is Deepankar Das Gupta (Mech.) who has not changed a bit and was as buoyant,narrative and dominating in his discussion with wits and humor as you might remember him to be during those days!
